I don't really do a lot of festivity ...Hi Liz,

I don't really do a lot of festivity hosting, but if I did I'd quite like to hijack the idea of bringing Christmas Eve into things in a bigger way. I'm always a bit disappointed by Christmas - it tends to fly past me in a disorganised flurry and is over and done with before I've managed to work out what's going on - so making it a bit more active over a longer period might help that a bit.

I always want to include my friends in my Christmas celebrations: as people I choose to spend my free time with, it seems silly to leave them out. Unfortunately, they're all off with family too...TeaKayBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15412265177362165813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6534897558316002385.post-60497062463903291022011-12-29T16:42:09.425+00:002011-12-29T16:42:09.425+00:00That sounds like a completely brilliant Christmas ...That sounds like a completely brilliant Christmas experience. Are you tempted to include elements of the Swedish way of doing things next time you host your own festivities.

I too have family all over the place; parents in Lincolnshire, brother and his family in Birmingham and step-sons in Kent, Reading and London respectively but somehow managed to have all of them rammed into my living room on Boxing Day. It was great.Lizhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10600329429654831610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6534897558316002385.post-36244217764042639542011-12-29T12:12:47.868+00:002011-12-29T12:12:47.868+00:00This is not the first year I spent Christmas away ...This is not the first year I spent Christmas away from home: I've been living in my own place for 5 years or so now. My parents split up a couple of years ago, and my mum lives in Reading (with me in the midlands), so it hasn't been possible to spend it with both of them for a few years now. We have a similar situation on my girlfriend's side, plus my grandparents demand a certain amount of attention too, so we have something like a 5- way split with regards to people who are clamouring to spend Christmas day with one, other or both of us! 6, if you include the Swedish contingent. Last year we did 3 out of the 6 on Christmas day itself, which was interesting to say the least. The previous two years we held Christmas at our house and opened an invitation to all and sundry so as not to upset anyone. Some people denied our invitation, but our consciences were clear!

This was the first year we've actually left the country, though!TeaKayBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15412265177362165813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6534897558316002385.post-20743553956943460722011-12-29T08:13:18.007+00:002011-12-29T08:13:18.007+00:00A nice experience! Or was it not the first time?

Sounds like a lot more alcohol was involved than a Christmas in Chennai, although we went to the British council carol concert where there were a lot of Christians and there was wine and whiskey for everyone :-) I don't like either so had water!Peterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14846971224169805943noreply@blogger.com
